The time has come; the roleplay is beginning! But first, a few last-minute reminders/rules:
1. A reminder to everyone: This RP starts out in the world we all are currently living in, in modern times. That means that no powers may be used in front of the average person, no mythical creatures may appear, and most characters will not even know of their abilities yet. It is okay for some to know, as long as they do not go around using their powers in an obvious way. As soon as the Avatars leave Our World, none of these restrictions apply anymore.
2. Powers develop through practice, they are not granted at full strength. To prove their worth, the Avatars will start with minor powers. The longer they have been aware of their powers, the stronger their powers will be. However, all will be fairly equal soon, and equal currently means low strength. Thus, don’t have your character be able to summon the apocalypse. Try starting with limited control over the raw element itself, building up to summoning the element or other greater powers. Creatures will naturally have powers that increase with age, but most will have already reached their peak.
3. I would really like to see this as an RP which could go any way. That means, at least partially, that it can’t be Ice vs. Poison vs. Everyone Else. Some people side with Corruption, some side with Ice, and others can join the side of the original Lords, or go off on their own. Even in a worst case scenario, where it is the alliances I mentioned first in this reminder, the “main group” could still be divided into two parties that may not join together, even if they share a common goal. 4. About the Orbs/Spheres/whatever you want to call them: Yes, the Avatar of Ice has one. The reason for this is that his main allies are creatures, not Avatars. He isn’t going to go out of his way to recruit, so I doubt many will join him. The whole reason he has become one of the three “sides” is because he found the Orb, which gave him enough strength to gather an army. So while your character may find a spot where the Sphere once was (as the Avatar of Lightning did), they will not find the Sphere itself. Well, not unless the RP gets very, very far, in which case the quests might be revealed to the avatars. But judging by the speed most RPs go at, we won’t get to that point.
Well, that's all for now. Oh, and here's a handy-dandy list of the Lords, names and "titles". Yes, my names really are that terrible. If you really hate the name of your representing Lord (not that it makes much difference), just tell me and I'll change it. I'm just really bad at coming up with names...
Light – Raia, Lord of Shining Thunder Dark – Sliphera, Lord of Silent Night Earth – Teshr, Lord of Steady Land Water – Memere, Lord of Flowing Souls Fire – Almior, Lord of Burning Anguish
Ice – Eroic, Lord of Freezing Sorrow Poison – Eshev, Lord of Shattering Ooze Air – Aialis, Lord of Endless Freedom Lightning – Hymerinos, Lord of Striking Blaze Shadow – Nae’sha, Lord of Eternal Twilight

To most humans, there is but one world, the one they were born in, the one they live in, and the one most shall die in. But to some, there are more: the personal worlds of imagination and dreams, for one thing. But there are others, ones shared by all, but accessible to only few… or so it was meant to be.
To the Elemental Lords, there were but six worlds. These were the worlds they resided over, the worlds governed by the powers they controlled. The humans lived in but one of these worlds, they had yet to set foot in The World, the Void, the Half-World, and of course, none had ventured into the world of the Guardians, or the Spirit World.
And around these overlapping worlds, a ring of the Lords rested, keeping peace giving strength to the still-young planets. And as they watched, they whispered to one another, sounds that were echoed in the Worlds, sounds that none could hear. And on one such time, Raia and Sliphera spoke to each other.
“We move in half-time,” said Raia, the Lord of Shining Thunder and the highest spirit of Light. “Though we can change the very being of these worlds, our power sways like the seasons. Our weak times give rise to wars and conflict.”
“We move in back-steps,” replied the Lord of Silent Night, her voice deep and calm. “As we move to fix one land, the others fail. As we strive to soothe the hearts of our creatures, the land suffers. As we strive to take care of our lands, the creatures rise.”
“We do not move,” said a voice from between the two. Nae’sha, Lord of Eternal Twilight, Lord of Shadow, joined her two sisters. “The Worlds spin too quickly, our eyes cannot follow them. Our hands are too powerful to act without destroying, our minds are too great to be embraced by all. When we act, the land cries out in suffering, though we try only to save our domain. We do not dare move, lest everything fails if we turn our back for one moment.”
“The land cannot live alone,” protested Teshr from another side of the Worlds. The Lord of Earth, also known as the Lord of Unmoving Land, took great care of the Worlds and strived to preserve them as they had been since the beginning of time. “If we did turn, all would fall into chaos.”
“We provide nourishment for all the life,” added Memere, the Lord of Flowing Souls and of Water, her star-eyes shining in the blackness. “If we were to stop, the Worlds that have grown dependant on our guidance would fall.”
“And perhaps the World would then give rise to greater things, things that could survive without us and with us, would grow to ever greater strengths,” interrupted the fiery Almior. His sister, Raia, nodded slightly, but she was unsure.
“Or perhaps without us the Worlds would resort to being simple, to live without living. Is that what you would like to happen?” retorted Eroic, his voice full of scorn. The Lord of Freezing Sorrow had his own ideas about what should be done. But now was not the time…
“As Memere said,” added her twin brother Eshev, Lord of Shattering Ooze and controller of the powers of Poison. “It is our task to preserve these lands, not to leave them to survive alone while we do nothing!”
“Why do we debate this now?” asked Hymerinos, her strong voice cutting through the argument. “For ages, for eternities we have been the guardians of these Worlds. What has happened to dissuade us from fulfilling our task?”
“Life. Life has happened, and Life has turned away from us.” Almior’s voice was now full of spite, of resentment. Still, he did care for the Worlds they had protected for so long.
“We move in circles,” said Aialis, the Lord of Endless Freedom. “As before, a time will come when the Worlds need us more than now. We will not turn from them then. In times when they need us less, we will recede. Let us end this. Look to the Worlds. Our quarrel is reflected in our charges.” When her words had been said, the sky returned to silence.

Time passed. For humans, the time seemed like an eternity. For creatures in The World, it was many lifetimes. For the Lords, each moment seemed a day, each day seemed a year, and each year seemed a century. And much can happen in that much time.
“Leave the Worlds,” said Eshev with an unnerving coolness in his voice. His eyes seemed to shine with a dark tone that had never been seen before. Corruption raged through his thoughts. “Leave the Worlds as they have left us, and we shall separate.”
“Separate!” sputtered Hymerinos, her composure lost. “Have you forgotten all you have said? You used to fight to stay and help the Worlds, now you change your mind completely? And as if that weren’t enough, you ask us to abandon our ancient circles?”
“Why not?” said Eroic, seeing his opportunity. “War rages below. Raia, Sliphera, as sisters you are close. But look to the Worlds, Light and Darkness are bitter foes! They no longer hear us there, they no longer remember that their power stems from us.”
“You, too?” replied Hymerinos. “Do all the Lords wish to change the rules we live by?” An uncomfortable silence reigned for a few seconds. Then, Eroic laughed coldly.
“Did you know, dear Hymerinos, that down there the forces of Lightning are the nemesis’s of the creatures of Ice? Perhaps I was wrong, your creatures do seem to echo the fact that you can’t accept change.” Eroic wore a pleased expression. Hymerinos seemed ready to strike right there and then.
“Enough!” cried Nae’sha, the youngest of the Lords. “You wish to reunite your creatures? There is a way.” Her dark eyes glanced from Lord to Lord, seeing no support in any eyes. “Once, we gave our gifts to one of each Element. We do not move, so they moved for us. Once, we let our voice be heard, so that they could pass it on to all.”
There was no argument. Each Lord thought about their own opportunities. For most, it was simply a chance to regain control over their creatures. For Eshev, it was a chance to spread the Corruption through these “avatars” to the Lords themselves. And to Eroic, it was a chance to conquer everything.

Pure brown eyes blinked open, staring up at a speckled ceiling. What a dream she had had! Flying, magic… it had included everything. And it had included a… map? A map she remembered clearly even as the rest of the silly dream faded away. Hymerinos had chosen her champion.
The Lords had watched as the Avatar of Ice gained great strength through the Orb. Some had applauded, some had watched in fear. Hymerinos had watched and saw in Eroic’s eyes why Lightning and Ice warred. And she had acted before the others, and gone so far as to speak to her champion. Of course, the girl would not remember. But the image she had left her would persist, and hopefully… hopefully things could change.
So the girl rose from her bed, able to think only of this map that made no sense. Her home was empty, if you could call it a home. She lived in the underground basement of a house that used to belong to her and her family. However, now the house was a pile of rubble and smoldered wood, and the only things surviving were the basement, and the girl herself.
Luckily for her the basement has also served as their well-stocked food storage, in case of an emergency. And strangely enough, it also served as the starting point of the map in her mind. “It’s just like me to out of the blue create some detailed dream,” she muttered to herself. “But I suppose I’ll never be able to forget it if I don’t follow it. And, it’s not like I have anything better to do, anyway.”
She walked up the stairs and out of what was left of the house, noticing out of the corner of her eye that she was being followed by the dark-grey cat who she had let live with her. As far as she was concerned, he had saved her life, so he was welcome. Of course, pushing her to the ground must have been an accident, a coincidental accident but an accident all the same. Still, there was an intelligent gleam in his eyes that intrigued her, and he was her companion in a world empty of everything else.
She came to a park, deserted in this early morning hour. Here the map etched in her memory confused her: the word “PORTAL” marked a swirling symbol. Portal? Did they, it, whatever mean a door? She followed the map as close as possible, ending up at a spot near the swing set. Nothing.
But the cat seemed to see something she didn’t, he stared intently at a point. Squinting her eyes, the girl thought she could see a slight shimmer, a change in consistency in the air. The cat leapt, and vanished into thin air, leaving the girl to stand flabbergasted, beginning to have second thoughts about whether her dream was made-up or not. She stepped forward… and found herself on her back, lying in a valley by the edge of a forested swamp. The cat was nowhere to be seen.
A current seemed to be spreading through the air, and it drew her. She followed the strange path of energy into the woods, her path carrying her safely through the dangers of the swamp. A sense of apprehension began to grow in her; it dawned on her that whatever happened she could not turn back and return to her old life. She could leave, but she would always wonder what this place was. And then the trees parted and she found herself in a clearing, staring up at a blocky pyramid or temple covered in vines and leaves. What could she do but enter?
Inside, the only noise was the sound of her shoes echoing on the cold floor as she descended down a lone staircase. This place seemed as if it alone had escaped the ravages of time to be preserved forever, a solemn monument to an unknown power. And perhaps that power was the source of the current in the air, for it only grew stronger as she approached… well, something.
That something turned out to be a pedestal in the center of a large room. She walked towards it, unable now to even comprehend the fact that she could always turn away. The dim light in the room was brighter toward the pedestal, and it grew light enough for her to see what was on it: nothing but a memory.
For there on the pedestal, where an Orb had once rested, all that remained were blobs of brilliant light. These speckles were echoed in the pure brown eyes of the girl, and when she turned away at last, the gold in her eyes persisted for a few long seconds before finally fading away.
Outside of the temple, a quiet creature waited for the girl in the form of a housecat. She ran up to it as she saw it, glad she had found her companion again. But looks can be deceiving, and as she approached the creature changed shape.
“What are you?” she gasped in awe and horror, afraid but somehow calm. “I am a Guardian,” replied the creature. “You may call me Ark. I have a story to tell you, Grace. Listen well, for soon all ten will know, and then will be the time to act.” Though she had no idea what she meant, the girl sat down and began to hear, and to learn.
************
“Master,” spoke the soft voice of the Skim-Serpent Guardian Iuek. “Did you feel it?” “I did,” replied the Avatar of Ice. “But they did not find the Orb, only the spirits left by it. Still… three now know. Soon the others will follow, and we must be ready.”
By the young man’s hand rested a blue Orb which emitted a pale light. Iuek stared in awe at it for a second before nodding to her master and turning to fly out. For them to succeed, they would need to gather as many as they could… and that meant creatures as well as Avatars. The time was approaching quickly.
************
Quickly meant a year. A year before the other Lords decided to summon their champions. The remaining Orbs were unreachable, only those who succeeded in a quest that would require their powers to be extremely great could find them. Corruption had come out from its mask, and the Lords were wary of Eshev, and fearful that their avatars would join. For though the Avatars were given strength by the Lords, the Lords were bound behind their avatars, no matter which path they took.

(No, people playing avatars can play their respected Lords, as long as they remember the Lords can't just come down and fry everyone (aww...).)

((Eep. I hope this comes out okay. I'll probably get more into it later on. This first post is gonna be pretty uncreative. School is draining.))
Bare feet ran joyfully through dewy grass trailing a stream of dark hair behind it. Nami had helped set up for the day and was ready to go and explore. After going for about 10 minutes, she slowed to a stroll and enjoyed the scenery. She saw a stream and smiled, "How lucky!" She thought and sat next to it. She stared into the sky as she cooled her feet in it. A shimmer attracted her attention in the corner of her eye. A pure white fish, looking like a koi but it looked as if it were glowing was sitting there without moving its fins at all. Nami didn't think at all that it was not supposed to be there or that it seemed a little strange. Memere gave a sort of vision. All Nami remembered were the points to try to trust her instinct and do what's best for the worlds' good. She got up and wondered what her vision was about. she wandered back to her temporary home to think on it...
((I dun like it))

Lillianay was running through the forest adding sunlight to all the dark corners of the shade under the trees, even though the shade covered up the light again right after. She skipped and hopped along the trail, giggling at her own futile attempts to lighten up the woods. She continued traveling until she came along the end of the forest. As she peered out of the forest, she saw a beautiful sun-lit plain, covered in irises, daisies, tulips and daffofils. She grinned at the sight of her paradise, and sprinted around the entire plain, collecting flowers and just having fun.

((i changed her name, so i hope thats ok. if its not, just tell me and ill change it back.))
Midnight sat in her makeshift home, sighing. She was now in the world of humans, and although know about her powers for quite a while, she was still wary and did not use them unless she knew it was safe. She lived in a hut in the middle of dark woods, made of wood bark, twigs, and other things. Looking out the window, she saw a bird flying past. "Free and careless. I wish my life was that easy." she muttered as she sighed again.

ooc: I'll start now. Okay, sorry, and yes, Talon is going to be the avatar of shadow....and, so, yeah. bic: Dragnia walked about, Chitan perched on her shoulder, he was desguised as a small hawk, he sang cheerfully. Talon was behind Dragnia, he just walked on, his long hair blowing in the wind. He had Saranitan perched on his shoulder. The two friends walked in a plain, it was full of flowers, and smelled very good. They stopped for a moment, and just smelled the flowers, and enjoyed nature.

(Okay, response time! Icefire - Sure, it's fine to change her name. Dragnia - Two things, actually. One, is Talon going to be the Avatar of Shadow or not? If you're going to use him, I'd prefer to know what part he is before he gets too involved in the RP. And also... please, please reread rule number one. Right at the top of the page. Here there be no dragons, until we get into The World. And if both your characters end up being human, then they shouldn't have met their dragons yet as they would be confined to Our World, and would meet them when they enter The World. So if you do want dragons either: 1. Have one of your characters or both be either an avatar or a non-human creature from The World 2. Meet the dragons later 3. Have the dragons could be disguised as birds or something, until they enter The World.
Everyone, please read the rules. I don't even care if you don't read the introduction (though it would be nice if you would...), just read the rules. They're up at the top for a reason.
Anyway...)
"Wait up!" Grace ran after the dark-grey tabby, seeming almost a blur as the two sped across a street, a cab driver turning to stare as the cat leapt completely over his car. "You can at least tell me where we're going!"
The cab driver turned away and shook his head as he drove off. The girl was obviously out of her mind, she was talking to a cat! He patted the head of the dog who sat next to him. "That cat's gonna get that girl killed, if she keeps running after him like that," he said, glancing back in his mirror.
"You're going to get us killed!" called the annoyed girl. She wished Ark could at least answer her and tell her where they were going... but if people thought she was crazy for talking to a cat, she didn't think they'd approve of the cat talking back.

The pages of a textbook went flying off on the gentle breeze. "Dang it! That wasn't supposed to happen." Katrina went chasing after them, plucking as many of them as she could reach from the air. She had gotten frustrated with her homework and had thrown the book at a tree. She hadn't meant to throw it so hard, but sometimes you don't know what you're doing when you're mad. Watching the rest of them fly away, and cursing under her breath, she stuffed what she had gotten back into her bag and headed for home. She usually spent a lot of time hanging around in a field on the edge of the forest around her neighborhood. It was peaceful there and it gave her a chance to be alone. She hated all the noise of town.
"Whoa." She put her hand up to her head in an attempt to get rid of the dizzy feeling. She sat down on a rock and threw off her bag strap. "This is rediculous! I'm never going to lug all of this home. Why do the darn teachers have to give us so much homework?" She kicked the bag and stubbed her toe on the corner of the book she had thrown. "Wow. This really is rediculous... Who's there?" She had heard footsteps and twig snap. No one replied and she shrugged it off. 'Probably just some animal.'
((Can't think... I'll come up with more eventually.

Darius sunk down onto the bench slowly letting his hands fall forward clutching the Styrofoam cup filled with coffee in his hands. The gruff unshaven face accompanied by the dark circles under his eyes didn’t add anything positive to his appearance. He sighed deeply taking a sip of the coffee and reached for the paper yawning bearing slightly pointed teeth quickly covering his mouth before unfolding the paper. If anything exciting was to happen today, please let it be before he fell asleep on this bench or before he ran out of coffee neither of which he was planning on doing.
The bright golden badge gleamed a bit on his chest as he sighed again tugging on the collar of the baby blue uniform he was wearing. His belt was filled with an assortment of equipment, everything from a night stick to pepper spray was hooked and tethered to this belt. It was amazing to him that this much extra weight didn’t hurt the ability of the belt to keep his pants in the full and upright position unlike many of his other counterparts who constantly were in need of a pair of suspenders.
Of course most of his counterparts were not 3,000 years old and posing as humans like he was. As far as he was concerned the only good thing about being here in this time period was the fact that he got to carry a gun and a can of mace, which liked to use on dogs very often being a Kitsune he hated dogs more then anything in the world…even more then being trapped in this form waiting for the one he was to protect.
