Okay. So I know I havent been here in forever, but I'm going to try to come on here alittle more. And I also know I've said that alot. But I'm seriously going to try this time. But anyway, I just started working on a new book. (Mayvori was starting to seem.. immaturish or something.) Its called Untitled so far, mainly because I can't think of a title. I have absolutely no plot in my head, I just started writing. But I have the prologue finished, so I wanted to ask your opinion on it. And critisism would be much appriciated, dont be afraid to be harsh.
It was autumn. The leaves were crisp reds, yellows, and oranges, and a cool breeze was aiding them in falling from the trees. The forest was very quiet, except for the sounds of the wind rustling the dying vegetation, and the faint sounds of thunder in the distance. A storm was coming, and all were best to be prepared when it did. Of course, not that anyone knew that. The animals sensed it, they had all hidden in their burrows or nests, or migrated to higher ground. But the race of humans, oh they were so ignorant. And that ignorance is what would lead them to their approaching downfall. That downfall would come with the pouring downfall of the rain.
October 19, 2017. This was the day that would be the beginning of the great end. The dawn of a new era in time. Of course with our ignorance, how would we know such a thing was about to happen? All our time was spent on war and money. But even those who kept a watchful eye had never anticipated what was to come on this day.
2:07 p.m. This was when the rain started. At first it is slow, just a cool fall shower. Of course the meteorologist were quite surprised. They hadn't predicted any sort of precipitation. In fact, they had predicted a dry spell. But not wanting to upset the public, they kept this little detail to themselves. By the time dusk approached, it had turned into a steady downpour. And by the time it was fully dark, the lightning had come, and with it the deep, booming claps of thunder. The sky was very dark, for no moon or stars could be seen. But still no one took notice. After all, it was just a small storm, wasnt it? Yet when midnight came, and everyone was fast asleep in their beds, disaster struck. It was as if the heavens opened up, and the rain came in fast, heavy torrents. As the temperature got quickly colder, the rain turned to sleet, and the sleet soon turned into hardened balls of hail. By this time the meteorologists were outright baffled. They stayed awake all night, trying to solve this mystery of the weather. But all of their efforts failed, and they could find no explanation.
Soon rivers were swollen far past their usual banks, and people below sea level were waking up to water seeping in at their door, and completely flooded yards. Unless they had a boat, they were trapped within their own homes, forced to the higher levels if they had one, or the roof if they didn't. But the roof was off-limits, as the pieces of hail were still coming down. The people who could leave did, but most were sealed within their homes. Many drowned, few got away. The towns above sea level were in slightly better condition, until the dams broke. They were flash flooded with almost no warning, and all who had not evacuated perished within minutes. The towns which did not have dams near them were still holding up, but soon these would be picked off too.
In the hour before dawn, the earthquakes struck. Anywhere there was a fault line, a massive earthquake devastated the area for miles around. Whole cities were shaken to the ground, and flattened. Millions died within seconds. Tsunamis came a few minutes afterward, and any town near the coast was completely wiped out underwater. But it seemed as if the volcano's would remain as they were, and the earthquakes all somehow bypassed them. Soon most of the land across the world was ruined, and many millions had died. They few who were left looked around them at the devastation, and wondered why all of this had happened to them, to the ones they loved, and to everyone else in the world.
By noon of October 20th, it was all over. The rain had turned into light drizzle, and that soon went away also. Much was lost, and in America the oceans had swollen all the way up to the Appalachian mountains of the East, and around the state line of Nevada in the west. The people heaved a great sigh of relief, but it was still only the beginning. Soon a sickness came, and wiped out many more. Many died of starvation and dehydration, and many more would. By the end of the week, the sickness had mysteriously claimed its last victim and vanished, but only a few thousands were left. The remaining survivors set off to claim their new lives, and so there it was started.
Even after this great apocalypse, no one was quite sure how or why it happened, and they may never know. But that isn't the important thing, now is it? The important thing is survival in this new world. But how do you survive when almost everything has been taken from you?
